The Blocks Are Back! Announcing a Brand New Series of Numberblocks
Here at Blue Zoo, we are absolutely buzzing to finally share some incredible news we’ve been working on behind the scenes. Get ready for more mathematical magic, because a brand new series of Numberblocks has been commissioned by BBC Children’s!
We’ve been hard at work animating 15 new episodes, and we can’t wait for you and your little ones to see them when they premiere on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer this autumn.
Bigger Maths, Bolder Adventures
Working with our amazing partners at Alphablocks Ltd., we've always aimed to make learning fun. This new series takes that mission to the next level. We're diving into more advanced mathematical concepts that will build a brilliant foundation for starting school. Get ready to explore:
- Perimeter and area
- Capacity and data handling
- Key skills like "bridging the ten"
- Adding and subtracting two-digit numbers
- Understanding parts of 50 and 100
It’s a huge step up, all built on the incredible educational framework from series creator Joe Elliot and the team. Our challenge—and our joy—has been to transform these concepts into the fun, character-driven adventures you know and love.

A Creative Leap Forward: Lights, Camera, Calculation!
This series, we really wanted to push our creative boundaries. How do you make "capacity" an exciting story? How do you turn "telling the time" into a gripping adventure? One of our favourite examples is a classic film noir-style episode! We had a blast creating a black-and-white mystery where Detective One returns to help a frantic Number Three solve the case of her missing button. By tracking her steps and checking clocks along the way, the episode cleverly embeds the concept of measuring time within a narrative that we hope will have both children and co-viewing adults hooked.
Our Co-founder, Adam Shaw, summed up our approach:
"With every new series of Numberblocks, our goal is to find the story and comedy in a new area of maths. We want to make abstract concepts tangible, visible, and fun for our young audience. This season, we're tackling big ideas like measurement and data, but we're doing it through rescue missions, detective mysteries, and team challenges. The film noir episode is a perfect example of how we can push our creative boundaries to serve the educational core of the show. It's about showing children that maths isn't just in the classroom; it's everywhere, and it's an exciting tool for solving problems."
This focus on story-first, maths-always is a philosophy we share deeply with our creative partners. As Ruth Cassidy, Editorial Director & Creative Lead of Alphablocks, says:
"Our creative process always starts with the maths. We ask ourselves, 'What is the story within this calculation?' or 'What's the adventure in learning about capacity?' This series has been about translating those key early years concepts into tangible, character-driven narratives that a child can delight in. Seeing Detective One use the principles of time-telling to crack a case is a perfect example of how we fuse rigorous educational thinking with unforgettable storytelling."
The Learning Continues
The adventure doesn’t stop when the credits roll. These new maths concepts will be woven into the fantastic Numberblocks World app and the Numberblocks YouTube channel, giving children even more ways to play and learn with their favourite characters.
We are incredibly proud to be part of a show that proves high-quality, British-made animation can make a real difference for children around the world. The success of Numberblocks is a testament to the power of purposeful, fun, and effective learning.
We absolutely cannot wait to share this new series with you.
