Manchester Animation Festival

13 November 2017

Manchester Animation Festival

This week half the zoo will be travelling to the Manchester Animation Festival, which will be on from the 14th - 16th November. Mamoon’s been shortlisted for an award (again!), we’re running several masterclasses and two Blue Zooers have also been shortlisted for Industry Excellence Awards.

Mamoon

Mamoon will be screening as part of the ‘Short Films Panorama’ on Tuesday 14th at 10.40am, Wednesday 15th at 5pm and Thursday 16th at 4pm. Tickets are still available to buy here

Masterclass: Creating a shot from start to finish, the easy way

Animation Director Bader Badruddin will be busting one of the biggest myths in 3D animation - that it’s a very complicated process and requires vast knowledge in computers and 3D software. The truth is animation is still just as it was in the early 1900’s, consisting of strong poses, breakdowns, and a fundamental understanding of timing.

Masterclass: Inside the Zoo

Co-founder Tom will be giving an inside account of how the studio started by four students has grown to one of the UK’s forefront CG animation studios. Tom will discuss what the studio has recently been up to, including their new short “Mamoon” and what the future holds.
Tom’s class will be on Thursday 16th November at 6pm. Buy your ticket here

Storyboarding workshop

Storyboard Artist Catherine Salkeld will go through the process of creating storyboards for an industry standard 3D show and the basics of boarding. From the initial briefing with a director right through to clean-up and fixes and what may be asked of you as a board artist.
She’ll then be talking about the process of storyboarding and putting that into practice. The end aim is to create a short sequence of thumbnails where you can put your skills to the test!

We’re delighted that two Blue Zooers have been shortlisted for an Industry Excellence Award! Francesca Adams for scriptwriting on Digby Dragon: Star Wishes, and Catherine Salkeld for storyboarding on Digby Dragon: Wonder Wings. Good luck guys!
