Animation Assistant TD - paid apprenticeship opportunity

Nov. 01 2018

We're thrilled to announce that we're working with NextGen Skills Academy to offer a two-year paid apprenticeship to one lucky applicant who's interested in a TD career in VFX. This is a superb opportunity for a natural problem-solver with a love of tech who's considering a career in the VFX industry.

What does an Animation Assistant TD do?

An Animation Assistant TD provides technical assistance to the creative departments in an animation studio, troubleshooting pipeline and workflow issues, writing tools in Python, managing data and resources, and supporting with the creation of dynamic simulations and effects using industry-standard animation software.

Who should apply for the role?

Are you an enthusiastic problem-solver, technically minded, passionate about coding with a fondness for animation? This could be for you!

What qualifications do I need?

The only criteria is that you must not already have a VFX related degree and you also need to be an EU citizen (these are legal requirements for all apprenticeships). You will need to show evidence of any technical skills, such as projects you have coded or VFX work you have created at school, college or at home.

What will this apprenticeship lead to?

Animation TD's can go on to work in a number of different roles within post-production including Pipeline TD, Software Developer, Rigger or FX Artist - it all depends on where your strengths lie.

How much does it cost?

It costs zero, in fact, you get paid! You will spend 80% of your time in the studio working on real projects, and 20% of your time learning at Westminster Kingsway College in central London.

How long does it last?

The Apprenticeship position starts in January and would run for approximately a year and a half.
